Unbeaten Argyle have improved says gaffer

- BY KRIS SMITH

DUNDEE ARGYLE have built on the success of last season with another spectacular unbeaten run in the league.

They currently sit top of the league and are still unbeaten going into 2017.

Added to that, they have already secured their spot in the first cup final of the season.

They have shown some real dominance with scorelines like an 8-1 victory over Tayport and 17-0 against Osnaburg.

However, it has not been an easy ride for Argyle i n all competitions, they have faced some tough opponents in the early rounds of the Scottish Cup.

In the second round, they came up against Northend, a side they met in last year’s semi-final and once again they managed to overcome the Glasgow outfit.

They face Meadowbank in the fourth round this Sunday and are keen to grab another emphatic victory as they continue their defence of the trophy.

They played Morgan FP last week in a winter friendly, winning 4-1 at the DISC, and the squad is at full strength as they look to continue their fine form in the second half of the season.

Manager Alan Henry is delighted with the team and says they are “still going strong” as he heads into the second half of his last season as boss.

He said: “The squad is stronger than ever this season and each place in that starting XI has to be fought for, it is so competitive to get your name on that team sheet.

“We have i mproved on a fantastic last season and they have exceeded my expectations already, I’m so proud of the boys.”

Dundee Argyle achieved a clean sweep of all six trophies they competed for last season.

The Argyle boss also wanted to highlight some of the hard work put in by his players this season.

Goalkeeper Leonard Ewing was praised for his shotstopping efforts, centre-back Steve Archibald and striker Stevie Martin both for their work at opposite ends of the pitch.

He also gave mention to captain Kevin Egan, saying: “He has done well to lead the side and keep the boys going.”

He also gave mention to club physio Bob McIntosh for his endless work in the background.

This is Alan’s 11th and final season with the club as he retires at the end of the campaign.
