New man could line up tonight

-

DUNDEE United are racing to get Danish hitman Thomas Mikkelson signed up in time to make his debut at Hibs tonight.

The Odense striker is set to join up on loan for the rest of the season and the Tangerines were today attempting to rush the deal through in a bid to make him available for Easter Road.

The Tele understands he arrived in Dundee last night and, if the green light is received in time, could start the Championship promotion clash.

And as a determined bid to keep pace with Hibs at the top of the table is made, manager Ray McKinnon is set to be given funds to add another player to his squad in the January transfer window.

He’s already been linked with loan moves for former Tannadice favourite Nadir Ciftci and Conor Sammon of Hearts but having got Mikkelson could look at strengthening other areas of the team.

Ray is prepared to take time to complete a second deal and, as he searches for the right talent, will look to the Continent as well the domestic market.

That willingness has already seen him add the likes of Dutchmen Nick van Velden and Frank van der Struijk this season.

Now he’s uncovered Mikkelson, who, at 6ft 2in, is described as a powerful front man with the physical strength to make him well suited to the Scottish game.

In his late teens and early 20s he enjoyed successful spells with several smaller Danish clubs before earning a move to Odense in 2014.

And while he’s been unable to hold down a regular place with the Danish Superleague big guns, he’s had game time during loan spells with IFK Gothenburg in Sweden and, last season, at one of his former Danish clubs, Vejle BK.

There he scored 11 goals in 28 league appearances before returning to the Odense squad for this season.
