Swimmers making a splash for charity
DIABETES UK is calling on people in Dundee to join its team and take on the Swim 22 challenge.
Participants are challenged to swim 22 miles — the equivalent of swimming the English Channel — to raise funds for Diabetes UK, between February 22 and March 22.
Swimmers have three months to swim 22 miles in their local pool, either by themselves or by splitting the distance with teammates. Participants are encouraged to get sponsorship so that every length completed will help fund research into new treatments, techniques and Diabetes UK’s search for a cure.
Money raised will also fund campaigns which secure better care and support for people with diabetes to live well.
Karen Moore, Diabetes UK fundraiser for north east Scotland, said: “Swim22 is perfect for anyone who wants to challenge themselves to get fitter and to keep physically active.
“The three-month timeframe means that whatever your fitness level there’s plenty of time to get in the pool and complete the challenge — you can even split the distance with teammates if that feels more manageable.
“Funds raised through Swim 22 will enable us to continue to support people living with diabetes and also continue to fund research towards better understanding and treatment of diabetes.
“We hope lots of people will join us and help us work towards a world where diabetes can do no harm.
Participants can sign up any time as long as they complete the challenge between February 22 and March 22.
