Bruce the hero for 10-man Bleachers

- BY JUNICUS

LUNCARTY won their way into the last 16 of the Scottish Cup with an outstanding 3-1 away win against West Super League Side Cumbernauld United.

Reg McLaren put the Bleachers ahead midway through the first half but Pat McCabe made it 1-1 in 43 minutes.

Five minutes into the second half, McLaren restored Luncarty’s lead.

However, the visitors were reduced to 10 men when Gerrard Kelly was red-carded midway through the second 45 for a foul on an opponent.

That incident saw Cumbernauld awarded a penalty which was brilliantly saved by Duncan Bruce.

The Bleachers 10 men then clinched their place in round five when Darren Kelly made it 3-1 in 78 minutes.

Broughty Athletic crashed out after being handed a lesson by Sauchie at Whitton Park.

The Premier League outfit l ooked stronger and hungrier all over the park and, had it not been for home keeper Iain Ross, their 4-0 winning margin could have been even greater.

Brian Morgan gave Sauchie the lead in 47 minutes and, minutes later, Dave Morrison made it 2-0. Morgan and Ryan Miller completed the scoring.

In the Premier League, all three Tayside clubs were beaten.

Violet were without eight players and it was no surprise they were outclassed by Bathgate, who ran out 5-1 winners.

Darren Dalrymple and Robbie Feeney both scored doubles for the Creamery Park side with George Bonnar also on the scoresheet for them. Violet’s only crumb of comfort was a goal from George Duncan.

The Pansies have signed Lochee United central defender Chris Tawse.

Despite new signing Ross Lunan scoring on his debut, Downfield’s defence had a real off day and Dalkeith made them pay as they ran out 4-2 winners.

Stewart Adams and Paul Tansey both scored doubles for Thistle with Craig Smith from a penalty the other home scorer.

Forfar West End lost 3-0 at Kennoway, who now take over from the Angus side at the top of the table.
