Tayport fightback against Swifts in vain

IN t he DJ Laing East of Scotland Cup, Tayport came back from two goals down against Jeanfield to draw level with the Perth side.

However, their fightback was in vain as Swifts went on to win a penalty shootout.

’Port made a dreadful start to the tie, losing two early goals.

The first came after only two minutes when Daniel Kelly gave Jeanfield the lead then, in 10 minutes, Chris Scott doubled their advantage with a back-post header.

The Fifers upped their game in the second period and Daniel Sanchez pulled one back. The same man had a hand in the equaliser on the hour mark when he set up Dale Reid to net.

With no further scoring, it went to penalties with Swifts keeper Mark Mitchell saving two spot-kicks as they won the shootout 4-3.

Kirrie Thistle lost out 5-4 on penalties after drawing 3-3 with Super League side Broxburn.

Stewart Russell put the Angus side in front after just five minutes but the visitors came back strongly and scored twice in quick succession through Alex Miller, to lead 2-1 after just 13 minutes.

Bryan Duell pulled Kirrie level on 23 minutes but Darren Gribben restored the visitors’ lead on 58 minutes.

Duell then equalised again with 14 minutes left to send the match to a shootout.
