Alston is hoping boots stay lucky
ST JOHNSTONE’S Blair Alston wore new boots last week — and he hasn’t stopped scoring since.
He was cracking in goals in training and then netted Saints’ second in their 2-0 Scottish Cup win against Stenhousemuir at McDiarmid Park on Saturday.
He’s hoping to carry on his goalscoring against Celtic at Parkhead in the Premiership tonight but, as long as Saints win, he won’t care who gets the goals.
“It would be nice to play well and score against Celtic but the team getting a win is the main thing,” said the former Falkirk player.
“My new boots did well for me in training last week so I tried them against Stenhousemuir and ended up scoring.
“That helped take us to the next round and here’s hoping my boots continue to be fortunate.”
Tonight will be the first time Blair has played at Parkhead, although it isn’t the first time he’s faced Celtic.
“I played in the Falkirk team which lost 3-1 to them in a League Cup semi-final at Hampden, so I’m hoping for better fortune tonight.”
The Perth men will be without Richard Foster for tonight’s game as he is suspended. Keith Watson will deputise.
The former Dundee United player made his topteam comeback following a lengthy spell out injured in the cup victory over Stenhousemuir and did well.
“We knew Richard was out of the Celtic game, so the cup tie against Stenhousemuir gave us the chance to give Keith 90 minutes,” said Saints’ boss Tommy Wright.
Murray Davidson has recovered from the illness which kept him out of the Stenhousemuir tie and is in the squad.
