Sauchie next for demolition men

-

IN the Premier League, Tayport are raring to go following last week’s demolition of Downfield but they face a stiff task away to title favourites Sauchie.

The Fifers are on the fringes of the promotion race and a win over Sauchie, who have lost only once this season, would be a major boost for John Ovenstone’s side.

Apart from Scott McDowell, who is out for the rest of the season, they should have a full pool available. Downfield head over the Tay to Glenrothes. Paul Marr’s side will be out to put theTayport result behind them.

Both teams sit on 24 points and the Spiders will be looking for a repeat of the 2-0 victory when they met at Downfield Park.

Marr has a full pool to choose from but could show changes after last week’s disappointment.

With Whitburn in cup action, Violet could jump off the bottom of the league if they manage to beat St Andrews at Glenesk.

The sides drew 3-3 when they met earlier in the season but, given a fair share of the breaks, the Pansies will fancy their chances of going one better with home advantage.

Injuries once again deprive manager Ralph Henderson of the services of Gavin Hood, Barry Wilson and Kevin Scott, while Craig Batchelor will also miss the match because of illness while George Duncan is unavailable.

Saints are again minus Ryan McInnes and Jason Quinn.

After their disappointing defeat at Tranent last week, Forfar West End host struggling Armadale Thistle, so should extend their excellent home record.

In addition to Danny Ross, Ross McDonald and Ali Smith all being fit again, they are also boosted by the fine showing of new signing Connor Ireland from St Andrews on his debut last week.
