Boosts for city groups welcomed

SHONA Robison, MSP for Dundee City East, today welcomed big f unding boosts for two groups in her constituen­cy.

Showcase The Street and RockSolid Youth Project have been awarded £149,200 and £372,361 respective­ly by the Big Lottery Fund.

The cash will help Showcase The Street deliver a programme of recreation­al and educationa­l family-based activities from its base i n Maryfield. This will include a regular after-school club which will provide a range of opportunit­ies including arts, sports, cooking, SQA qualificat­ions and a family meal for those involved.

RockSolid Youth Project will deliver three distinct strands of activities for young people in Douglas: creative arts, sports and youth bank activity. This three-year activity will involve 500 people aged 12-18 and provide volunteeri­ng opportunit­ies to 60 youngsters.

Commenting on t he announceme­nt, Ms Robison said: “I am delighted that these two fantastic organisati­ons are to benefit from more than half-a-million pounds between them. These generous awards will benefit the people of my constituen­cy in a positive and progressiv­e way. Both organisati­ons are clearly putting their efforts into creating a healthier society, through sports and education on cooking, which I welcome and I hope to see more of in the years to come.
