‘It is disgusting that my attacker only got a fine’

- BY WILL LYON

A PERSONAL trainer who was repeatedly punched by an off-duty bouncer in a Dundee nightclub has hit out at the “disgusting” £150 fine his attacker was given.

Michael McCash, 25, was in Industry nightclub on the Seagate with his arms around a woman when Darren Scott, 25, launched the “unprovoked” attack.

CCTV footage showed Scott punching Michael to the floor as he tried to protect his head with his hands.

Scott, of Mylnefield Road, Invergowrie, was charged by police following the incident and he admitted the attack in court this week.

At the hearing, Scott admitted a charge of assault against Michael — of Wellbank — by punching him repeatedly on the head and pulling him to the ground.

Scott was fined £150 for the assault, which Michael said had left him concussed and unable to work for more than a week.

He said that following the sentencing, he felt let down by the legal system for what he felt was a “brutal” attack.

And he said a jail term might have been a more appropriate punishment.

Michael, who is self-employed, said: “I think it’s disgusting that he got away with what he did, for just a £150 fine.

“What does that say to others about going into a nightclub and then just start attacking people?

“To simply give him a fine — £150 — is just crazy.

“I don’t get any compensation whatsoever.

“I thought the court might have made a compensation order or something but there was nothing.”

And Michael says the assault is still affecting him two months after it happened.

He claims he has barely been out to nightclubs since. Michael said: “I had to go to A&E because of what he did to my face and I was concussed.

“A £150 fine is nothing considering what happened.

“I lost £150 a day myself afterwards because I wasn’t able to work.

“I was off for about a week and a couple of days, so it cost me a lot.

“I’ve not really been out in nightclubs after what happened — it’s put me off.

“It was a brutal attack because I didn’t see it coming — there was nothing I could do.”

Following the attack, a spokesman for Industry told the Tele the venue had banned Scott for eight months.

The spokesman described the incident as a “cowardly” attack on one of the club’s customers.

But Michael says he’s still not sure why he was attacked in the first place.

He said: “I do know the guy but I still don’t really know why he did it. It was completely unprovoked.

“He said he was speaking to the girl I was with, so I don’t know if it was jealousy or something.”
