£10,000 grant to help fight fuel poverty in city
A DUNDEE housing association has been awarded £10,000 to help people suffering through fuel poverty.
Energy Action Scotland has awarded t he grant to t he Hillcrest Housing Association to help it set up a specific scheme aimed at defeating fuel poverty.
Hillcrest’s energy advice team will use the funds to supply targeted relief to about 300 households across Dundee and also to the other areas of the country the housing association operates in. Hillcrest energy advice officer Euan Hird said that the money would have a big impact for those living across the city who needed it.
He said: “The energy advice team already supports more than 600 people each year and this money will allow us to help even more people in need.
“We believe no one should have to choose between heating and eating.
“We will use this funding to support individuals and families who are identified as being in crisis.”
Hillcrest’s energy advice team has now been in operation since 2013.
In that time, they have helped households to manage their energy bills, use energy more efficiently and to overcome fuel poverty.
According to the Scottish Government’s latest Scottish House Condition Survey, a total of 748,000 households are in fuel poverty across the country, including Dundee.
