Star fight for life at Thomson Park

- BY JUNICUS

LOCHEE United play host to Newtongrange Star in the Super League and with the Lothian side fighting for their league survival, it promises to be a tough afternoon for the Bluebells.

Wins in their last two matches has seen them climb out of the bottom three but defeat from the Thomson Park outfit could see them dragged back into the drop zone.

George Shields’ side have their eyes on finishing as high up the league as possible and a solid finish to the season could see them climb into the top four.

Lochee will again be without Connor Birse, Graeme Hay and Scott Webster.

Meanwhile, j ust up t he coast at Carnoustie, Jeanfield will be hoping a Bluebells victory is on the cards to help them avoid being dragged into one of the automatic relegation spots.

The Perth side are fighting for their lives and are undefeated in their last four matches, with three draws and a win.

One of those was against tomorrow’s opponents, Carnoustie with the Gowfers conceding they were a bit fortunate to come away with a point after a 2-2 draw.

After last week’s morale-boosting cup success over Penicuik, Swifts welcome back Stuart McDiarmid, Chris Scott, James Yeats and Scott Sutherland.

Player/boss Ross Gunnion will require a late fitness test on his thigh strain. Keith Dewar is suspended.

Broxburn will be in the City of Discovery for the second week running when they head for Whitton Park to face Broughty Athletic. They left empty-handed last Saturday following a 1-0 defeat at Thomson Park and the Fed will be hoping to inflict more misery on them.

Broughty manager Keith Gibson will be looking for an improvement on last week’s performance against Violet despite the win over the Pansies taking them through to the final of the GA Cup.

Gibson felt their first-half performance at Glenesk was as poor as he has seen in a long time. The Fed manager will have a full pool available apart from Jamie McCunnie, who is unavailable.
