RODGERS CALM OVER ROBERTS DILEMMA

-

CELTIC boss Brendan Rodgers i nsists Patrick Roberts’ best interests will be central in discussions about his club versus country dilemma.

The Hoops attacker, on loan from Manchester City, is a key part of England’s Under-20 squad who are looking forward to the forthcoming Under-20 World Cup.

However, the South Korean tournament clashes with the William Hill Scottish Cup Final at Hampden Park on May 27, where Celtic will look to complete the domestic treble when they take on Aberdeen.

It was reported that Fifa had confirmed that England do not have the final decision over the 20-year-old’s availability for the tournament.

However, ahead of the Ladbrokes Premiership clash with Rangers at Ibrox tomorrow, Rodgers said: “England will announce their squad in May and I am sure there will be a discussion.

“We want him to be here so we will see how that goes over t he coming weeks.

“He is here on loan, but we respect the people at England, I know them well and we will have a conversation about it and hopefully it will fulfil the needs of both parties.

“Pat knows there i s a World Cup opportunity there f or him, he has worked hard to be there.

“It is unfair to put the boy in that situation really. He has played a big part in what we have been doing.”
