Sad to see tenement stonework being covered

-

OVER the years, there have been various Government grants available to help us achieve energy savings. What will be the overall cost of this continuing policy? The mind boggles!

Now, there are houses in Dundee being treated with an outer skin of insulation.

This seems to be mainly on council house stock, including many stone tenements.

I thought the stone still looked as good as the day these houses were built. Having grown up in one, I feel sad good stonework is now being covered by this treatment.

Is the cost of this work perhaps a step too far?

We have around 7,500 names on the council house waiting list. Each name possibly represents a family, so how many people in total?

Some are living rough, most probably living with family, relatives, friends or in high-rented private accommodation, with no home of their own to even think about insulation.

Finally, I wonder who is covering the cost of educating some of us on how to save energy by installing so-called smart meters in all of our homes.

Maybe these magical robotic devices will make the energy suppliers’ extortionate standing charges obsolete.
