Future crucial to Waterfront
THE words are becoming more and more familiar: “Dundee is a city that’s going places.” How many times have we heard that? (see pages 4&5).
It’s fantastic to hear Dundee talked about in such terms by so many different people — and it’s testament to the work that’s going on in the city to give it a new lease of life.
But now that all these exciting projects are coming forward, the real challenges lie in the years ahead in making sure they are successful in the longer term.
An activity like wakeboarding will be alien to most people and, for that reason alone, the centre will likely get huge attention in its early stages.
In fact it’s likely to draw people from outside the city because it’s one of only two facilities in Scotland.
However, those behind this particular project — and the council planners who have helped facilitate it — must ensure there is a long-term strategy for providing a stream of visitors to such attractions for decades to come.
It’s the only way the Waterfront redevelopment will become a real success for Dundee.
