More ‘bin city’ than ‘Bonnie Dundee’ now

-

I THINK “Bonnie Dundee” as we know it, will have to now be renamed “Bin City”.

On travelling on Dens Road/Moncur Crescent it looks like the council had run out of places to allocate the remainder of their new recycling large bin stock and decided to site what they had left in this area (right).

Apart from being unsightly, what has happened to the council’s earlier stance on hazards on pavements — ie shopkeepers’ advertising boards etc?

Heaven help visually impaired people and wheelchair users. Not only are the bins placed at the roadside, they also have the large food waste recycling bins on the inside of pavements against the walls.

I only hope children don’t attempt to cross the road close to those hulking great roadside eyesores.

Are there others of a similar opinion? To me it appears as recycling gone mad. If we were to re-apply for Dundee City of Culture in the future I doubt we would even be considered with those eyesore bins all over the city.

WE need more information out about the new recycling initiative. Up here in Grampian Gardens it’s quite clear it’s all going to end in tears.

The new big containers have a lock on them, has anyone been given a key? I certainly haven’t, although I managed to open them with something from my tool box.

I was in five of them and each one was full of the wrong stuff. Can people not read? The containers are all clearly marked.

It would appear that a majority of people just cannot be bothered trying to do it right.

I also fear there are not enough containers being laid out and we will soon have rubbish piling up everywhere.

And there isn’t a single glass container in the whole of Grampian Gardens and I doubt very much if people are going to haul their glass along to the one on Longhaugh Road.

I believe a huge campaign is needed to try to encourage people to fully engage with it. We did get a leaflet through the door but it wasn’t enough.
