Glamorous runner for Newmarket

-

RON Harris plans to make the Group Three Longholes Palace House Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday the first port of call for his talented sprinter Just Glamorous.

The four-year-old gelding only beat one horse home in the Prix de l’Abbaye at Chantilly on his final start of last season but had previously shown his talents at the same French track when winning a Group Three in September.

Harris said: “Just Glamorous is likely to go for the Palace House.

“He has come on well from his winter break and is a much stronger horse this year.

“It was a bit early to win a Group race at three, I thought, as it can be hard for three-year-old sprinters.”

Just Glamorous is one of 17 entries in the five-furlong Group Three.

His potential rivals include the bang-in-form Kimberella for Richard Fahey and the Clive Cox-trained duo of Priceless and Profitable, the latter now being owned by Godolphin.

Goldream, Washington DC, Alpha Delphini, Muthmir and Prix de l’Abbaye winner Marsha are also among the possibles.

TED Durcan faces a spell on the sidelines at a crucial stage of the new season after fracturing his left ankle in a fall at Leicester.

The Classic-winning jockey will not know exactly how long he will be out of action for until he has undergone surgery, which he hopes will be in the coming week.

Durcan was injured when unshipped from the fifth-placed Plundered after the winning line in a five-furlong novice stakes.

“I went to Leicester Royal Infirmary to have my ankle X-rayed and, as we expected, it is fractured,” said a disappointed Durcan.

“To be honest we knew more or less at the racecourse but obviously I went to hospital to make sure.

“It’s a clean fracture which will need an operation later on in the week. I’m seeing my specialist and, hopefully, I’ll have it operated on later in the week.

“Until I have surgery I won’t know how long I’ll be out for. It’s most annoying now because the season has only just started in earnest.

“It’s happened at the worst time but that’s the way it is.”

RUTH Carr will consider running Sovereign Debt overseas in pursuit of more big-race honours. The eight-yearold grey has thrived since his switch from Dandy Nicholls’ yard and was impressive in the bet365 Mile at Sandown on Friday.
