Paul, 33, left with repair bill after vandals hit car

- BY RYAN TUTE

A DUNDEE driver has been left outraged after he woke up to find his car windscreen had been smashed.

Paul Cuthill’s Honda CRV was vandalised in King Street, Broughty Ferry.

The 33-year-old, who has been quoted almost £200 for the replacement of the windscreen, is hoping those responsible are found by police.

Paul said he would have to foot the bill for the damage, as he has only third party insurance.

He today told the Tele: “I am shocked that something like this can happen in a main street of Broughty Ferry.

“I suspect it might have been the actions of someone who was drunk late at night but it is still outrageous that someone can think to do it.

“I am a hardworking man with a wife and child, so to have to fork out money on this is tough to take.

“What would these people think if it happened to them?”

The incident happened some time last Thursday night into Friday morning.

Paul believes the person responsible also went out of their way to cause the damage.

He added: “It appears whoever has done it ran up the bonnet of the car and then put pressure on the windscreen.

“It’s also on the driver’s side of the car, so it’s not like they have been walking down the pavement. It seems they have gone out their way to do it.

“I don’t know if they targeted my car but I couldn’t see any other car with damage.”

Paul has also been left shocked after officers in Broughty Ferry apparently told him that cars are regularly targeted by vandals in the area.

Paul said: “I find it quite hard to believe that a lot of cars in a nice place like Broughty Ferry are being damaged.

“Officers i n the station said windscreens and wing mirrors are always being smashed.

“I am not very hopeful of whoever did this being caught.

“But am I meant to just accept this and pay the money? It doesn’t seem fair.”

Broughty Ferry councillor Craig Duncan said he was “surprised” to hear of the incident.

He added: “If this was the case then I would want to see some sort of plan of action by police”.

A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed officers had been made aware of the incident.

The spokesman said: “Police Scotland can confirm they are dealing with a reported vandalism to a silver Honda CRV parked in King Street, Broughty Ferry, overnight from Thursday June 1 into Friday June 2.

“If anyone has any information which could assist this inquiry, please call 101 or speak to any police officer.”
