Sportsman’s dinner celebrating 25th anniversary
SPORTS personalities will be recognised at the 25th anniversary annual Dundee Sportsman’s Dinner later this year.
The event, which will take place on Wednesday September 20 at the city’s Invercarse Hotel, will feature a strong line-up of sporting legends and headline speakers.
Organisers are calling out for nominations for local sports people and those who go the extra mile to help Tayside clubs and sports groups grow.
This year’s headline speakers include former Wales international Dean Saunders, who played with Liverpool and Aston Villa in the English Premier League in 1990s.
He will be joined by Eric Davidson who, since joining the Scottish after dinner circuit, has picked up several awards along the way.
This year will see Willie Allan host the event again after his success in past years.
Gavin Garden, chairman of the organising committee, said: “The dinner is set to be a fantastic event especially since we are celebrating our 25th anniversary.
“It’s really important we get to celebrate local sporting talent and recognise their efforts.
“I would also like to thank our main sponsors who ensure this event continues. Without their support we would not be here celebrating 25 years.”
The Dundee Sportsman’s Dinner, sponsored by law firm Thorntons, Brewin Dolphin, DWK Office Solutions and Bank of Scotland, not only recognises local sporting successes but also raises vital funds for local sports clubs.
Since the dinner launched in 1992, it has raised £380,000.
