Police swoop in probe into ‘housebreakings’

- BY ADAM HILL

POLICE swooped on a Dundee street in a probe into a series of alleged housebreakings.

A man was arrested and charged after officers were seen in Dudhope Crescent Road.

It followed an investigation into incidents in Laburn Street, Salem Street and Dudhope Street throughout last week.

Gary William Tardito, 36, was detained by officers and appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court in connection with several alleged offences.

Tardito, of Dundee, is accused of a housebreaking with intent to steal and a theft by housebreaking.

He further faces a claim that he carried out an attempted housebreaking with intent to steal.

Tardito is also accused of having an article with a blade or point in a public place.

He made an appearance in private, on petition, in relation to the allegations.

He made no plea or declaration and the case was continued for further examination.

Tardito was released on bail meantime.

One man who witnessed the police presence in Dudhope Crescent Road said: “I was walking down the road to work. I turned around the corner and there were a load of police vehicles sitting outside the church.

“You don’t expect the police to be out and about at eight o’clock in the morning.

“There didn’t seem to be any police officers in the vans so they must have been out investigating.”

A MAN arrested and charged with a serious assault in a Dundee street will face no further action.

The 32-year-old was detained by police after a fight was reported to have taken place between two men in Americanmuir Road on Thursday.

Both men were taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries.

A witness told the Tele that one of the men had been led away from the scene with his face “covered in blood”.

The man was detained in custody overnight and was due to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court on Friday over the allegation.

But a spokesman for the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service said today: “The procurator fiscal received a report concerning a 32-year-old male in connection with an alleged incident on July 6 in Dundee.

“Following full and careful consideration of the facts and circumstances of the case the procurator fiscal decided that there should be no criminal proceedings at this time.

“We reserve the right to raise criminal proceedings i n future should the position change.”
