Three charged after street ‘disturbance’

Three people have been charged after more than a dozen police cars were called to a disturbance in a city housing estate.

Eyewitnesses said there was a major response by the force in St Mary’s.

Today, police confirmed three people — one man and two women — have been charged by officers with breach of the peace.

One witness told the Tele the area was lit up by blue lights when police arrived on the scene.

He said: “There was a major police response on St Kilda Place, St Kilda Road and St Giles Terrace.

“It happened on Saturday at about 12.45am.

“The first of 12 police cars arrived with three vans arriving moments later to deal with it. It’s been the talk of the street ever since.”

The eyewitness said the incident appeared to have taken place in a back garden on St Kilda Road. He added: “Most folk only knew about the alleged incident because of the number of blue lights.

“There were at least 12 cars blocking the road.

“Police officers ran into a garden.

“But there were no ambulances and no cordon and nothing was there the following day. “At first it looked like a car accident, as a traffic police car blocked part of the street off. But when I got out there, the police were standing at the vans.”

One woman who lives nearby said she had been watching TV when she heard a “commotion.

She said: “I could hear people arguing so I switched off my TV and that’s when I saw all the blue lights.

“I just thought, ‘come on, it’s 2am and I have to be up for work at six’.

“It’s worrying when something like this happens but the police seemed to have it under control.”

A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed officers attended the scene in the early hours of Saturday and three people had been charged.

He said: “We received a call at 12.38am on Saturday following a disturbance at St Kilda Road.

“Three people were arrested and charged with breach of the peace.”

A spokesman for the force later confirmed that a 53-year-old man was charged as well as two women aged 28 and 33.
