Chance for Lichties to stretch lead at the top

- By EXTRA COVER

TOMORROW gives Arbroath the chance to extend their lead at the top of cricket’s Eastern Premier Division.

They host an Aberdeenshire side who have struggled for form.

The Dons rely way too heavily on Chris Venske and Lionel Ngope as was demonstrated in last week’s loss to Watsonians when they were two of only three batsmen to make double figures.

The Lichties welcome back a couple of players to further enhance their title favourites tag.

Forfarshire could do Arbroath a favour if they can overcome second placed Grange at Mckay’s Forthill.

Both lost last weekend due to poor batting displays, so much will depend on which side bat better. Skipper Umair Mohammed is missing for Forfarshire so Scott Cameron takes over the reins.

Glenrothes will start off favourites when they travel to meet SMRH at Inverlieth although they did lose to them earlier in the season.

Since then, Glens have went on a strong run while the Edinburgh outfit have hit freefall and have won only once more, They sit second bottom.

Falkland have stuggled all season and have yet to win a game so they will be huge underdogs as they host last year’s champions Carlton.

Although the visitors haven’t hit top form this time around they should still have too much firepower for the Fife side.

Watsonians and Heriot’s clash at Myreside.

In the Western Premier Division, the top two meet in a game that will go a long way to deciding where the title finishes up as Prestwick play host to Ferguslie.

Fazal Jawad is in good scoring form for Preswick and his wicket could decide the outcome.

Ayr have home advantage over Uddingston and Clydesdale have Dumfries as visitors.

On Sunday, the Strathmore and Perthshire Cricket Union T20 finals day takes place at Doo’cot Park, Perth with both Three Counties and Two Counties Cups up for grabs.
