Dee not at full speed yet insists Dens boss

- BY GEORGE CRAN

DESPITE three wins from three pre-season games, manager Neil McCann insists fans haven’t seen the real Dundee yet.

Tonight is the Dark Blues’ final friendly as they host Bolton Wanderers at Dens Park before the Betfred Cup kicks the 2017/18 season off next week.

After victories against St Mirren, Arbroath and Brechin City over the past two weeks, Neil is pleased with how preparations for the new season have gone but insists there is plenty more to come.

He said: “We’re not full speed yet, by no means are we at full speed yet and we probably won’t be but it’s important the boys are getting ideas in their heads.

“Before the Brechin game was the first time I had a real go at working with the team in terms of defensive shape, how it moves when we’ve not got the ball, where we press and I think you could see a wee difference on Tuesday. “Definitely I could anyway. “I’ll get another workout with the boys who are going to play against Bolton from the start.

“We’ll work their positions, have some serious work with them so we go into that match in a more organised and more familiar state in terms of how we approach the season.

“I’m looking forward to the Bolton game.”

Neil is expected to start the majority of the players who began on the bench on Tuesday night.

All eight outfield players, including Darren O’Dea, Cammy Kerr, Kevin Holt, Scott Allan and Randy Wolters, came on after 75 minutes at Glebe Park.

“It was important we try to split the two games up with two teams that can get longer,” added the gaffer.

“That’s so we come to the Raith game with everybody having been in contention and had a lot of minutes under their belt.

“Tonight is an opportunity for the boys who were on the bench to get their 75 minutes or so.”
