Hateley as flying start

English football. Among the most well-known would be striker Adam Le Fondre, who played for Reading in the Premier League, captain Darren Pratley, who played for Bolton in the top flight and Filipe Morais, who played for St Johnstone, Inverness and Hibs.

The quality of the opposition won’t ever be something Dundee will worry too much about, though, according to Hateley.

There will be a step up in quality from Tuesday night’s 2-0 win over Brechin City but one thing that won’t change will be the Dark Blues’ mentality.

“We went to Brechin looking for the win, that’s 100% the mentality the manager has and he’s drummed this into us to go everywhere to win the game.

“Games like these are classed as friendlies but it’s more than that — you’re not going to go to places like Brechin and get bullied and get run over or anything like that.”

For Hateley, time on the pitch was vital at Glebe Park after missing the start of pre-season with a hamstring problem.

“It was good for me personally, my first minutes of pre-season, so it was good to get some minutes under my belt.”
