Scott’s journey to success
IT’S been an amazing last month for Perth City Swim Club’s Scott McLay.
Over the last 31 days he’s had 15 days of competition at t hree meets, i ncluding two internationals.
He’s represented his club, Scotland and Great Britain.
The teenager has travelled 15,370 and spent six days training back in Perth in between events such as the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas and the British Junior Summer Meet in Sheffield.
He competed i n 25 races including heats, semi-finals and finals and won three gold, three silver and a team bronze.
He also set the Scottish Age Group 50 metres freestyle record for an 18-year-old.
Scott made history as he became Team Scotland’s most decorated athlete in the history of the Commonwealth Youth Games, winning with three golds, one silver and a team bronze.
Head coach at Perth City Swim Club is Ann Dickson.
Her club’s success has been built on a 40 year career in sport that has focused on providing those opportunities to all those she has coached.
Ann’s passionate belief that international success can be possible in an environment where grass roots sport is encouraged to flourish has been borne out by her athletes’ achievements.
She said: “No-one is born a winner. Talent plays a very small part in the longer term. Commitment, determination and resilience are what count.
“With good support and strong self belief, everyone is capable of realising their potential.”
