ROUND-UP Tayside pair in the British U/20 top 10 rankings

A superb 400 metre run just outside his personal best capped his competitio­n return.

Two of the club’s youngest members, U/11 athletes Cameron Wilson and Lachlan Howie-Davies did brilliantl­y against older opposition.

Competing in their respective disability classifica­tions, the boys achieved personal best shows.

At the other end of the age group spectrum, brothers Michael and Kevin Rice were in sparkling form, with the run of the day being the 800 metres.

The Harriers senior athletes picked up a first and second place in this middle distance event.

Michael had a great run to win his 100 metres while Kevin won gold in the standing long jump.

Freya Howgate continued her outstandin­g season with some great throws in the shot put and javelin events.

She finished her day off with a stunning run to win her 200 metres and smash her personal best by two seconds.

This is great preparatio­n for her further events south of the border later in the season.

Strathtay president Jim Hunter said: “The Harriers would like to thank all the parents, careers and fans who travelled with the athletes and helped make possible.

“The ongoing support of the Gannochy Trust makes these trips possible and the support of the families helps our coaches do what we do.

“Our partnershi­p with Perth and Kinross Council allows us to welcome anyone with a physical, sensory or learning disability who would like to have a go at our sport.

“This year we have been fortunate to get support from many local groups, including the Guildry Incorporat­ion of Perth and the Rotary Club of Perth Kinnoull, for our race running programme.”

Meanwhile, planning for the Perth club’s annual track and field event is well under way.

PERTH Strathtay Harrier Sol Sweeney and Dundee Hawkhill Harrier James Donald have climbed to ninth and 1oth respective­ly in the British U/20 5,000 metre rankings.

GYMNASTICS

EUROPEAN all-around champ Ellie Downie will miss the World Championsh­ips through injury.

Brit Ellie (18) has been forced to pull out of the Montreal event in October after ankle surgery.

“I had surgery on my ankle which was i njured at the British Championsh­ips this year,” she said.
