Both teams looking good this campaign

-

LAST weekend’s derby has given us all a taster for the season ahead and, weirdly, I left Dens feeling good about both teams this season.

Believe it or not, Sunday was actually the first Dundee derby I’d been to in person.

And, apart from all that work I had to do, I really enjoyed it — so much so that I’ll be back at Dens for round two next week.

What a weird situation we ended up with after that game with the draw. Weird or not, the good thing is we get another go at the derby in a week’s time.

And with it being proper knockout this time, it’ll, hopefully, be even better.

Both sides can take good things out of the game at the weekend and will reckon they can take advantage of any weaknesses they spotted in the next clash.

Dundee were the better team, for me.

No surprise there — that’s the way it should be for a Premiership team against a Championship one.

The Dark Blues had most of the ball and tested young United keeper Harry Lewis plenty of times.

Glen Kamara looks like he’ll be a cut above when he gets into full flow this season.

Scott Allan, too — I think that’s him racked up five assists already in his short time in dark blue.

I like Kerr Waddell and the way he attacks the ball like he wants to kill it.

He’s inexperienced and will make mistakes this season but Dundee have landed a good ‘un there.

The main disappointment was Sofien Moussa up top who didn’t impact the game nearly enough — hopefully we didn’t see the real Moussa on Sunday and it was just an off-day for him.

At times this season all won’t go as planned for the Dark Blues but I think they’ll be alright in the Premiership.

As for United, they’ve got to win the Championship. I expect them to do that, too. I was impressed with a lot of their play, particularly without a recognised striker, and they should be too strong for much of their division.

Scott McDonald adds such a lot with his experience and quality in front of goal but most impressive was Paul McMullan, what a great wee player.

Next week should be another belter, but I reckon it’s going to be a good football season in the city.

?? ?? Sunday’s derby was a cracking contest with both teams having plenty to shout about. Bring on round two.
