Grove pair in Holland to receive top award

GROVE Menzieshil­l has five men’s and three ladies hockey teams to get ready for the new season. Training starts tonight and is also on Thursday at DISC.

On Saturday, the men’s firsts play Western and the thirds have games against Watsonians and Madras. Youth coaching is at Dawson Park.

Two of the club’s executive committee are heading to the Ladies Europeans in Amsterdam on Saturday to collect the EHF Small Club of the Year Trophy which the club were awarded earlier in the year.

It is a great honour for the club and it will be great to cheer on the Scottish girls when they take on Germany.

Harris FP fitness sessions are tonight and Thursday, meeting at 8pm on both nights at Balgay tennis court.

On Sunday, there is the club open day from 1pm-2.30pm at Riverside. Training is at the same venue from tonight onwards (8pm-9.30pm).

Monarchs’ pre-season meeting is this Saturday in the Morgan Rugby clubrooms at 11am.

Pre-season training for the ladies and men begins on August 23 at Dalnacraig (7pm-9pm). Perthshire’s pre-season activity is well under way.

All Midland clubs are reminded the next club’s meeting will be held in Dundee West Church, 130-132 Perth Road, Dundee DD1 4JW. It gets under way at 7pm.

Andy Tennant, Scottish Hockey Head of Performanc­e, will be in attendance.

He is keen to meet those involved with the district, clubs and schools and he’ll give a short presentati­on of his role in Scottish Hockey. He will be happy to answer questions.

The Midlands District still has a vacancy for a District Child Protection officer. Come to the meeting with names of anyone interested.

The Scottish O/40 men’s squad, playing in the European Masters Championsh­ips at Tilburg, Holland, opened with a 3-1 loss to Holland, Callum Wood scoring.

Then they had a 2-2 draw against Germany with goals by Chris Bonner and Alan Wall.
