Dee kids show spirit in loss to League One Alloa

edge of the area, Henvey found himself some room and fired the ball into the top corner.

He’d not been in the game too much but it really was an excellent finish.

At half-time, Neil McCann and Graham Gartland helped Boyle with his half-time team-talk and there certainly was an impact in the second period.

Alloa maybe took their foot off the pedal a wee bit thinking the game was won but take nothing from the Colts.

As the game meandered towards the final whistle, Dundee’s substitutes breathed some life into their team and one of only three outfield players on the bench, John Smith, gave Henvey his second of the evening, turning in a good low cross.

The belief was there for the Dark Blues and Alloa were worried.

They pushed but couldn’t find a way through their League One opponents and, then, with the clock turning to 90, Malcolm made sure of the win for the Wasps with a tap-in for his brace.

For a very young side, the Dundee Colts certainly gave themselves plenty to be proud of and a lot to work on as their season proper gets under way next week.

Short of numbers a bit but, with some talent in their side, this was a spirited showing against a seasoned team and, for Boyle, plenty to be happy about.

Goodwin’s Alloa, meanwhile, move into t he second round of the competition.
