PERTH Strathtay Harrier Ben Greenwood has settled into life well at his college in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The 18-year-old former Perth Academy pupil started a four-year sports scholarship last month and is limbering up for the indoor 800 metres season.

Prior to his departure, Ben was fourth in the 800 metres final at the European U/20 Championships in Grosseto, Italy.

It continued his good form which also included a new personal best of 1:48.71 at a British Milers Club meet in Loughborough.

Ben is ranked first in Scotland for 800 metres among the U/20s and he’s third in the UK and seventh in the all-time Scotland list.

Meanwhile, four of his clubmates are taking part in the Scottish Athletics Throws Grand Prix in Livingston tomorrow.

Lauryn Wood and April Heggie are competing in the hammer and javelin events, Rebekah Rose in the discus and shot and David Rose in the hammer and discus.

Fellow Harrier Freya Howgate, a T37 classification athlete, has had a superb season with many fine showings including some in England.

T37 is one of seven classifications for athletes with cerebral palsy.

She has another huge meeting coming up on the 23rd of this month, the CP Sport National Championships being held in Nottingham.

The teenager is taking part in the 200 metres, javelin and shot put.
