Used needles dumped
Bill Day, 58, a reliability engineer who lives in Albert Street, said he discovered a “drugs-fest” when he walked into his close to find syringes, packaging and other items lying on the ground.
Speaking today, he called on the police to “get tough” on people using closes as “shooting galleries” — leaving tenants feeling “unsafe” when entering their properties.
He said: “I’ve lived here for 28 years and the issues with drugs users have progressively got worse.
“I came in last Friday and found syringes and bottles of stuff they are injecting lying around.
“The thing I immediately ask is, why don’t they take it home to inject?
“Our secure entry door was forced open a while back and they tend to hang out in the close. process of getting a £20,000 makeover. The block has also been blighted by drug users and teenagers.
Bill added: “I feel the police need to get tough on this — I contacted them after a previous incident but no one came out. This is definitely the worst I’ve seen it.
“It was like a drugs-fest and I can only see it getting worse as drug users are seeing closes as a place they won’t get bothered in.”
David MacDougall, vice-chairman of the Stobswell Forum, said the organisation was aware of the drug problems in the area and called on anyone affected by the issue to contact police.
He said: “There is certainly awareness of the issue in the Stobswell area — just as we are of other areas in the city which are facing the same problem.
“I would encourage folk to keep reporting incidents like this to police.
“As a forum, we will continue to work closely with police and the community planning partnership as well as a whole range of other agencies.”
