Dens Park kid believes Dee can upset the odds

Spence has enjoyed a five-game run in boss Neil McCann’s side and impressed in the recent wins over St Johnstone and Hearts.

He also played his part as Dundee picked up a valuable away point at Kilmarnock.

Despite Dundee’s only high-profile match action in the past fortnight coming in the form of Friday’s Dave Mackay testimonial game, Spence insists they feel fresh and ready to keep up a positive run which has seen them climb to eighth in the top-flight.

The ex-Dunfermline and Brechin City man didn’t feature in the 5-3 Dundee victory against a St Johnstone select side but is happy with how they have recovered in the league.

Spence added: “We’ve had a wee break which was good for us to be able to recharge the batteries a little.

“We had a bit of a dodgy start to the season but we kept at it.

“We’ve stuck together as a team and the manager’s telling us to keep doing the same things.

“We’re disappointed we didn’t get the three points at Kilmarnock but to get home wins against two good teams like St Johnstone and Hearts can only stand us in good stead for the rest of the season.”

Dundee’s last win over Celtic came 30 games ago in 2001.

The Dark Blues will be hoping to replicate that historic 2-0 victory at Parkhead but their recent record suggests it will be a tough task.
