Saints pair are set to be missing for Celtic visit

-

ST JOHNSTONE duo Brian Easton and Stefan Scougall look certain to miss the home game against Celtic on Saturday due to injuries which necessitated their substitution in the first half of Saturday’s 1-0 loss away to Partick Thistle.

Easton suffered a knee knock and Scougall went over on an ankle.

They could be out for a few weeks, meaning they will miss the Celtic game.

The international break means there is no game the following week and it remains to be seen whether they will be OK the week after to face Hibs at Easter Road.

Saints have a break the week after that as their scheduled opponents, Motherwell, are playing in the Betfred Cup Final.

Sainst team boss Tommy Wright was disappointed with the result but not the performance against Partick.

He said: “I’m disappointed for everybody, especially the players who put a lot into the match. They tried hard throughout.

“We didn’t make enough of our control and possession and didn’t make the right decisions in the final third of the pitch.

“We didn’t make the right final pass to unlock their defensive door and crossed the ball from positions where it made it easy for Cerny to come and cherry pick the ball out of the air. We played well enough to win the game and were under no pressure.”

Yesterday, Saints beat Dundee United 2-1 in the Youth Cup at McDiarmid Park.

Jamie Docherty netted both Saints goals in the second half, the first a tremedous strike, with Louis Appere replying for United, netting late on from a Gavin Ritchie cross.
