Dee ‘found a wee bit of gold’ in Kamara signing
DUNDEE boss Neil McCann has told “class act” Glen Kamara to enjoy a bit of sunshine as he heads off to join the Finnish national team.
The Dark Blues midfielder has been a breath of fresh air since joining the club in the summer after being released by Arsenal’s youth set-up.
As you’d expect being part of the Gunners academy, the 22-year-old technically is excellent and keeps the ball very well.
What has maybe surprised some is considering his inexperience — this is his first full season in senior football having only played 10 league games on loan at Southend and Colchester beforehand — how well he controls games for his side.
Boss Neil says the players around him have been a big part of that — particularly Paul McGowan and Mark O’Hara lately — in aiding and abetting the Finnish international’s “superb” form.
The Dens Park gaffer said: “Glen has been superb i n the middle.
“I think he enjoys playing with Paul McGowan and big Mark O’Hara beside him.
“In the last couple of weeks, we changed to go to a tight three and I think he likes having the boys around about him.”
Kamara had represented his country, Finland, at U/19 and U/21 levels but made the big step into senior international football in November.
He made his debut as a substitute in a friendly against Estonia and this weekend will join up again with his international team-mates for a mid-season training camp i n Abu Dhabi.
And his club manager says he knew they’d “found a wee bit of gold” when they got the chance to snap up Kamara on a free transfer in the summer.
Despite his lack of senior game time, the former Arsenal man has quickly become a key player in Neil’s team and a firm favourite among the Dundee faithful.
And his gaffer says he more than deserves a wee break in the Middle East sun for his efforts at Dens Park over the last six months. Neil added: “Glen is a class act. “We knew when we looked at him and had the chance to sign him we’d found a wee bit of gold there.
“He’s going off to meet with the Finnish national team and get a bit of sun on his body.
“He’ll enjoy that side of it because he’s earned it. He’s been terrific.”
