Friendly fire gives Finlayson a boost

- BY JUNICUS

BROUGHTY Athletic and Carnoustie will do battle at Whitton Park in the Super League tomorrow.

After weeks of inaction, Fed manager Jim Finlayson was pleased to fit in a friendly at the GA arena on Tuesday where his team were 5-0 winners over Violet.

The Whitton Park boss said: “It was a good run-out for the lads and keeps our fitness levels ticking over.

“Despite the lay-off, we had some really good performances and some excellentlyworked goals.

“We now look forward to some league action tomorrow against Carnoustie, which is always a competitive fixture.”

Broughty have moved quickly to replace keeper Iain Ross after his departure to Elgin City by signing Chris McPherson from Harp.

McPherson, who was assisting Harp on the coaching side, played for 45 minutes against Violet.

Carnoustie are also eagerly awaiting the fixture and, apart from Jamie Robbie, manager Alan McSkimming should have a full pool available.

With their fourth round Scottish Cup tie against East Kilbride due the following week, Lochee United are desperate to get in some playing time away to Hill of Beath tomorrow.

Manager George Shields delays his selection but will be without Kevin Buchan and Bryan Deasley.

Forfar West End host Newtongrange and expect to only have long-term casualty Matt Ramsay missing. Player/boss Daryl McKenzie’s squad numbers 17.

Bottom-of-the-table West End badly need a win in their battle to beat the drop.

Jeanfield Swifts face a tough trip to Bonnyrigg Rose, who returned to the top of the table last week and remain unbeaten.

However, Swifts travel with a full squad.
