Youngsters are playing major part at city clubs

Menzieshil­l Hockey Club and an important responsibi­lity for a young volunteer.

Nominee: Gemma Lumsdaine Club: Dundee Dragons Wheelchair Sports Club

Gemma Lumsdaine is a valued volunteer for Dundee Dragons Wheelchair Sports Club.

She was player/coach for the senior wheelchair basketball team, winning the Grampian Cup and the Scottish Developmen­t League play-off.

She also coaches members to improve their chair and motor skills for other sports and was a member of the Scotland U/19 Wheelchair Basketball coaching team.

Gemma has cerebral palsy and is a full-time wheelchair user but this does not stop her doing what she can for sport. Gemma volunteers on the Government’s Women’s and Girls Advisory Board, the Scottish Disability Sport Young People’s Panel and Basketball Scotland’s Young People’s Panel.

Nominee: Fraser Rennie Club: Madsons Basketball Club

Fraser Rennie is a hard-working coach and volunteer for Madsons Basketball Club, taking on a lot of responsibi­lity.

Fraser coaches four nights a week and has contribute­d to the success of the club’s U/10, U/12 and U/14 teams at regional developmen­t l eague tournament­s.

He has helped the youth section to grow, has developed a ‘Basketball Basics’ programme for young children and he is involved with club fund-raising events.

Fraser volunteers on the club committee, the Management Committee of Menzieshil­l Community Centre and he produces the club newsletter.
