Chelsea meets Harry by royal appointmen­t

INSPIRATIO­NAL teenager Chelsea Cameron has rounded off an incredible year by having a private meeting with royalty.

The 19-year-old, from Menzieshil­l, was invited to meet Prince Harry and his fiancée Meghan Markle during their visit to Scotland this week.

The teenager made headlines last January after writing an open letter to her parents Tammy and Alexander about her upbringing.

She spoke about their behaviour and the devastatin­g impact their drug addiction had on her and could have on others.In the months that followed, Chelsea’s life changed for ever.

Now she has rounded off an amazing 12 months by meeting the royal Chelsea meets the royal couple. couple, as well as First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, in Edinburgh.

Chelsea said today: “It was an honour to be invited to meet Prince Harry and Meghan Markle alongside the first minister.

“Although I obviously knew well in advance, I wasn’t allowed to say anything to anyone before the event for security reasons.

“It’s been a year since my story came out and I wanted to do something special to mark it — I’m confident this makes the cut!

“My heart bursts with the confidence that the people of Scotland have in me to keep throwing incredible opportunit­ies my way.”

Chelsea met Prince Harry and Miss Markle at a reception at the Palace of Holyrood celebratin­g the Scottish Year of Young People.

She said: “They were absolutely lovely, so down to earth.

“It didn’t feel like you were talking to royalty when you were speaking to them. It was just like having a chat with any other young couple.

“They heard that I was Young Scot of the Year and they congratula­ted me on that being a remarkable achievemen­t. They encouraged me to continue to try to inspire other young people in Scotland.

“They were also genuinely interested in speaking to all the young people there and were asking lots of questions about what everyone was doing.

“On a more personal note, I couldn’t take my eyes off Meghan. She is absolutely beautiful.”

The royal couple are not the only famous people the former Menzieshil­l High School head girl has met in the year since her letter went viral worldwide.

She has appeared on national television and radio and has spoken alongside Ms Sturgeon on more than one occasion.

Chelsea recently joined DC Thomson’s BREAKTHROU­GH initiative, designed to support youngsters in achieving a “positive destinatio­n”. Our
