Dundee have to be ‘more streetwise’

- BY GEORGE CRAN

TUESDAY night’s giveaway from Dundee to Kilmarnock shows the Dark Blues need to be “more streetwise”, according to winger Roarie Deacon.

No one at Dens is hiding from the fact they let themselves down at Rugby Park as they allowed 10-man Killie to come from a goal behind to win 3-2.

“All we can do now is look to tomorrow,” said Deacon.

“We let ourselves down on Tuesday, we all know that, no one is just brushing that under the carpet.

“We’ve listened to the manager, said what we need to say to each other as a team and now we put that to one side and l ook f orward to the game tomorrow.”

Deacon and his team-mates travel to Maryhill for another massive Premiership clash.

With opponents Partick Thistle sitting below Dundee in the table in 10th spot, the 26-year-old knows they need to pick up a result.

He said: “The game tomorrow is crucial.

“They are a point behind us so we need to pick up the three points and extend that gap.

“It was a very important game to win on Tuesday but tomorrow is even more important now after what happened.”

For the majority of the contest during the midweek game, Dundee were the dominant side, playing some good football.

Deacon says, though, doing that just some of the game isn’t enough as the Dens Park men head into the business end of the season.

He added: “We need to show it for 90 minutes — we have periods of games where we are on top, long spells but I don’t think we’ve sustained that for a full 90 minutes.

“That’s what we need to start doing because we keep teams penned in and not able to play their normal game against us but we give them opportunities to get back into it.

“We can’t keep doing that, especially like on Tuesday.

“We need to be more streetwise and not allow teams to get back into games when we are a goal up and a man up.
