Arbroath food firm looks at empty Chinese eatery

PLANS have been lodged for a new pizza restaurant in Broughty Ferry on the site of a former Chinese eatery.

Local businessme­n Mike and Lee Patterson are aiming to open Pizza Revolution in Gray Street, replacing the former Peking Garden.

The site has lain vacant since 2016, but now plans have now been lodged with Dundee City Council by local firm Jon Frullani Architect to re-fit the empty unit.

Mike and Lee are hoping to carry out £40,000 of renovation work inside the building if given the go-ahead by city planners.

The brothers also run Arbroathba­sed Webmor’s, which offers “highqualit­y” dining using local produce.

The existing establishm­ent, which opened in the town’s High Street in 2012, dishes up favourites such as fish and chips, pork tenderloin and steaks.

But the proposed eatery in the Ferry will be a different propositio­n altogether, according to Lee.

Speaking to the Tele, he said: “We’re going to open a pizzeria which will offer a rustic, laid-back vibe with a wood-fired oven.

“We want to make it the go-to place in Broughty Ferry, not only for pizza and food but for coffee and things like that.

“It will operate on a self-service basis where people can come up and order their food rather than sit down and wait to be served.

“We’re looking to take on probably three full-time kitchen staff and maybe two people for other work.”

Neil Cooney, communicat­ions secretary of Broughty Ferry Community Council, said he believed a new place to eat would be a welcome addition to Gray Street.

He said: “It’s always good to see new businesses coming in. I think it’s a positive thing in terms of the mix of food and drink options in Broughty Ferry.

“It’s a local, independen­t company, so they’ll know the score.

“It also helps towards giving Broughty Ferry its own identity and attracting people when the new rail link arrives.

“That investment is a commitment and with a traders’ associatio­n that’s 100 years old there’s an infrastruc­ture to help them succeed.”
