Big sides take part at DISC

-

DUNDEE Wanderers women’s hockey team will host the premier European Indoor Club competition at DISC this weekend.

This features the top eight teams in Europe.

Wanderers gained promotion to the top tier of European indoor hockey by winning the silver medal at the event in Lithuania last year, a huge success for the Dundee side and for hockey in Scotland.

The tournament features many of the stars of the recent FIH World Indoor Championships in Berlin.

Meanwhile, the narrow win for Grove Menzieshill II against Edinburgh University III moves them up alongside their opponents.

A couple of teams in Midland Division Two each had a player scoring a brace of goals

Eleanor Greenwood netted both Grove III’s goals in their 2-0 win over St Andrews University IV. Rosie Morris scored two for Perthshire III but that was insufficient against the four scored by Monarchs.

Grove Menzieshill should have a comfortable win over second bottom Grange.

The three points will probably still leave them three points adrift of first division leaders Edinburgh University who should defeat Watsonians.

Dundee University will probably find the going as tough as it was last weekend when they face second-placed Erskine Stewart’s Melville in Division Two.

St Andrews University could move up alongside Edinburgh who are only three points ahead.

Perthshire are best placed locally in Championship Two and will maintain fourth place with victory over Ayr.

The second strings of St Andrews and Dundee Universities have only ESM seconds below them.
