A ‘phenomenal’ night is in store say organisers
champions in our city’, Scottish record holders and other things they might never have heard of.
“Getting that chance to reward people for their efforts and get that message out there so more people in Dundee know what’s going on could inspire them to get involved in sport.”
It’s not just elite-level athletes being honoured, however, but normal Dundonians doing extraordinary work in their communities.
Knight added: “It’s a very important event in the calendar for us.
“It costs a lot of money but it’s been prioritised for all these years that it’s a good use of our budget.
“It’s brilliant for the city, we generally have sportscotland representation at the event and it’s good to let them see all the good news stories that are happening in Dundee.
“Although we are delighted to be recognising sporting achievement, it’s often development work behind the scenes which we’re looking to promote.
“Some of the clubs are doing amazing work in providing free activity for kids to try to get them into sport.”
Knight kept her cards close to her chest when asked about who she thinks will be going home with the trophies, saying: “The clubs definitely buy into it and we saw from the public votes this year there was a good amount of votes put in, we were really pleased with that.
“We’ll need to see what happens on the night.”
