Comets glow in Mo­ray

DUNDEE Comets con­tinue to lead the Scot­tish Na­tional League af­ter a 9-3 win against hosts Mo­ray Ty­phoons.

In the tight con­fines of the small rink, Comets took the first pe­riod to ad­just their game as the El­gin side fin­ished the first pe­riod lead­ing by 2-1.

The sec­ond stanza was a much dif­fer­ent af­fair as the vis­i­tors bom­barded the home net with 49 shots, of which four went in to give the Taysiders a 5-2 lead at the sec­ond in­ter­val.

By now, the High­landers were be­gin­ning to wilt un­der the re­lent­less pres­sure be­ing piled on by the Dundee side, with an­other four mark­ers find­ing the net.

John Dolan topped the scor­ing with a hat­trick, with Lewis Gold get­ting on the score­sheet twice.

Ross John­ston, John Gor­don, Kris Phillips and Man-of-the-Match Shaun Smith were Comets’ other scorers on Satur­day, with Adam McNi­coll, Billy Hogg, Sam McCluskey, Michal Beca and Bill Bax­ter all grab­bing as­sists.

Comets as­sis­tant coach John Gor­don Sr said: “We came here to get the win and we knew it would be tough play­ing in the small rink as it stops our game flow­ing.

“How­ever, we now fin­ish our league cam­paign at home this week­end where we play Pais­ley Pi­rates in what could be the league de­cider, and Ty­phoons the fol­low­ing evening.”

Comets host Pais­ley on Satur­day at the DIA (f/o 7.30pm) and Mo­ray on Sun­day (f/o 6.30pm).
