Comets glow in Moray
DUNDEE Comets continue to lead the Scottish National League after a 9-3 win against hosts Moray Typhoons.
In the tight confines of the small rink, Comets took the first period to adjust their game as the Elgin side finished the first period leading by 2-1.
The second stanza was a much different affair as the visitors bombarded the home net with 49 shots, of which four went in to give the Taysiders a 5-2 lead at the second interval.
By now, the Highlanders were beginning to wilt under the relentless pressure being piled on by the Dundee side, with another four markers finding the net.
John Dolan topped the scoring with a hattrick, with Lewis Gold getting on the scoresheet twice.
Ross Johnston, John Gordon, Kris Phillips and Man-of-the-Match Shaun Smith were Comets’ other scorers on Saturday, with Adam McNicoll, Billy Hogg, Sam McCluskey, Michal Beca and Bill Baxter all grabbing assists.
Comets assistant coach John Gordon Sr said: “We came here to get the win and we knew it would be tough playing in the small rink as it stops our game flowing.
“However, we now finish our league campaign at home this weekend where we play Paisley Pirates in what could be the league decider, and Typhoons the following evening.”
Comets host Paisley on Saturday at the DIA (f/o 7.30pm) and Moray on Sunday (f/o 6.30pm).
