Students triumph in close matches

Evening Telegraph (First Edition) - - Uk World Today -

THERE were two amazing Dundee and District Badminton Association Handicap Cup semi-finals, both going to countback.

Abertay University triumphed over NCR and holders Dundee University defeated Nomads.

After having won every league match over two seasons, Nomads 100% record has finally been ended.

Harris shocked the champions racing into a 3-0 lead.

Nomads won the final gents doubles to go into the mixed 3-1 down and a further win in game six gave them hope.

Two draws in the next two games put paid to that.

Nomads did at least maintain their unbeaten record with a fine win in the final game by Andy Middleton and Karen Westwater earning them a 3-3 draw.

Dundee University (2) look like they are going to be making a speedy return to Division Two, though they put up a good fight before losing to Roseangle 5-3.

After their heartbreaking cup exit, NCR moved top of Division Two with a 4-3 win against Dundee University (3).

Monifieth Grove had a chance to top the Division Three table and would have been confident of doing so, having beaten St Andrews University at home. It never looked likely, however, as they lost heavily to a strong student side.
