Award is icing on birthday cake for Davidson

-

ST JOHNSTONE midfield man Murray Davidson celebrated his 30th birthday last week and crowned his celebrations with a Man-of-theMatch performance in his side’s 4-0 away drubbing of Dundee.

The former Livingston player was at the heart of everything good the Perth men did as they cruised to the biggest away Premiership win of the season.

He even set up the visitors’ opening goal as his shot was deflected into the net by Dundee debutant Jordan Piggott.

Murray has been with the Perth club for nine years and is heading for the 250 appearance mark for the club.

Central defender Jason Kerr is at the other end of the experience scale but he, too, played his part in the win.

Having been sent off last Tuesday away to Kilmarnock, Jason was able to play against Dundee due to Saints appealing the red card.

The appeal is set to be heard this week and, should the panel turn it down, Jason will miss Friday’s home fixture against Hibs.

Should that be the case, Saints have a number of options.

They could bring in Liam Gordon as a straight replacement or shift Joe Shaughnessy from right-back to central defence and bring in Keith Watson or Aaron Comrie at right-back.

Saints still have injury concerns as the Hibs game approaches.

Stefan Scougall and Richard Foster will miss the rest of the season and David McMillan, Brian Easton, Keith Watson and Callum Hendry are out for varying periods.

St Johnstone face Dundee in a Development League game at McDiarmid Park tomorrow (6pm).
