History made as ’Burgh girls reach a cup final

-

A FANTASTIC 6-1 semi-final win against Westdyke Thistle saw Dryburgh U/17s become the first Dryburgh girls side to reach a cup final.

They were well worth their victory, playing some great football and scoring six very good goals in the process.

Neve Guthrie set Burgh on their way with a composed finish after skilfully rounding the goalkeeper.

Katie Shaw then added the second with a superb strike after cutting inside from wide left to fire into the top corner.

The girls’ third goal came just before half-time through Amy Reilly who cleverly steered the ball into the Westdyke net with her knee from a corner.

Westdyke came out battling after the break and put Dryburgh under pressure — but the girls defended well.

Soon, though, the 17s added another and it was striker Gabrielle Watt’s third of the season.

Gabby did well to hold off a challenge and smashed an unstoppable drive over the advancing Westdyke keeper high into the net.

The girls’ fifth goal, from Ellie Cook, was another cracker as she bulleted home a Katie Shaw corner.

Westdyke then managed to pull a goal back after some good play.

However, there was to be one more counter for Dryburgh and it came from Nyla Murphy who showed real class volleying home a Cook free-kick.

The girls now face Raith Rovers in the SFA North U/17 League Cup Final in August.

Dryburgh 11s enjoyed an exciting end-to-end match away to Letham with both teams impressing.

Dryburgh 12s had Jess Anderson to thank for her last minute winner against Monifieth. The girls triumphed 5-4 with the other scorers being Milly Anderson, Ellis Cairncross (2) and Mariama Bayo.

Dryburgh 13s won a cracking match, beating Letham 6-4 with Teighan Milne (3), Kiara Moran (2) and Sophie McFadyen on the scoresheet.

Dryburgh 15s had two games, winning 9-0 at home to Dundee West with Morgan Airlie, Deon Hamilton, Natasha Keir, Kiah Irvine, Emily Beattie, Deryn Turner and Sophie Hunt the scorers.

They then beat Monifieth 6-0 with Hamilton (3), Deryn Turner (2) and Caitlin Hunter the scorers.

Fantastic performances by Dryburgh keeper Sarah McIntosh thwarted Dundee West and Monifieth to ensure she took her clean sheet tally up to five for the season.

Credit to Dundee West and Monifieth for battling away.

Dryburgh Ladies bowed out of the SSE SWF Cup, losing 4-3 away to United Glasgow. Scorers were Hope Ramage, Laura Boag and Erin Ross.
