Letham lead then Swifts fly high

-

JEANFIELD Swifts Girls U/15s welcomed Letham Girls to Riverside for a friendly between the two neighbours with Jeanfield winning 6-1.

Letham’s Jodi Whiting opened the scoring early on.

Her pressure on the Jeanfield defenders led to a mistake by the home side which she capitalised on with a fine finish.

Swifts regrouped and tested the Letham keeper who needed quick reactions off her line to stifle the attacks.

The equaliser came courtesy of Beth Allen, who pounced on a rebound from the keeper to net from close range.

While Jeanfield’s girls enjoyed most of t he possession, Letham continued to get stuck in and harry the home side.

However, Swifts took the lead midway through the first half when Leah Sidey hit a fantastic shot over the keeper from the edge of the area.

In the second half, Swifts dominated possession as their experience of playing at intensity in the National League came to the fore.

A goal from Emma Shipley and a hat-trick for Abbie Ferguson, whose silky footwork allowed her to dribble around the Letham defence, rounded off the display.

To their credit, Letham never gave up and continued to press Jeanfield.

The girls are rivals on the pitch but friends off it.

JEANFIELD U/12s are at home to Deveronvale in the Scottish Cup on Saturday (noon).
