ROUND two of the Eastern Premier Cricket Division resulted in wins for Aberdeenshire, Carlton, Mazars Grange, RH Corstorphine and Heriot’s.

At Forthill, Forfarshire stand-in skipper Scott Cameron won the toss and chose to bowl.

Mazars Grange got off to a good start with Ryan Flannigan hitting 64.

The Forfarshire spinners then restricted Grange well which kept them to 250-7 after their 50 overs.

In pursuit of the runs, Gordon Goudie tore through the Dundee outfit’s top order with 5-30.

It looked as if it was all but over.

However, a brilliant knock of 100 not out from Craig Wallace, ably supported by youngster Christian Robertson, who scored 43, got Forfarshire back in the hunt.

However, they fell just short, ending up on 227-9, securing themselves two bonus points.

In Carlton’s first game of the season, they secured a 72-run win over Watsonians.

Batting first, l ast year’s Scottish Cup champions managed to score 253-5 with Rory McCann scoring 123 not out.

Carlton then bowled Watsonians out in 32.4 overs for 181 with Scotland international George Munsey making 101 in vain.

Star performer with the ball for Carlton was Gupta with 5-43.

At Mannofield, Arbroath batted first and were in trouble after losing early wickets.

However, a spirited 106 not out from Calvin Burnett, alongside 52 from Blair Carnegie, allowed them to reach 218-7 after the allotted overs.

This wasn’t enough for the Lichties as Aberdeenshire chased it down in 40 overs to secure a four-wicket win. Wicketkeeper Kenny Reid was the difference with 79.

At Barnton, RH Corstorphine thumped Glenrothes by 128 runs in what was tipped to be a tight game.

Best performer for the home side was Foster with 92. Ex-Scotland star Majid Haq took 5-21 and contributed 37 with the bat.

In the other all-Edinburgh clash, Heriot’s had the better of Stewart’s-Melville.

Heriot’s managed to get 214-9 with Ryan Brown top scoring with 51.

Stewart’s-Melville never looked in the chase and, in the end, fell 95 runs short.

In the Western Premier Division, two matches were postponed due to the weather. These were Poloc against Prestwick and Stirling County against Clydesdale.

Andy McElnea starred for Ayr with 4-2 with the ball to bowl Greenock our for 84. He scored 37 not out with the bat as his side won by nine wickets.

In a low-scoring game in Paisley, Ferguslie beat Uddingston by 38 runs with Scotland A spinner Hamza Tahir the star with 3-10.

STEVE Patterson and Ben Coad combined to bowl out champions Essex as Yorkshire sealed one of the most unlikely victories in Specsavers County Championship history at Chelmsford.

The White Rose battled back to seal a 91-run victory almost 48 hours after being bowled out for a humiliating 50, although they scored 329 in their second innings.

Patterson finished with career-best figures of 6-40, with Essex’s pursuit of a 238run victory target undermined when they lost four wickets in the space of 23 balls.

Coad took three of those wickets as Essex slipped from 114-4 to 114-8 before folding to 146 all out half an hour before lunch on the third morning.
