Five battling to beat the drop

-

LOOKING at the Doc Ferry’s Premier Division table, it is anyone from five teams who could join Dryburgh in the First Division next season as teams head into the final lot of games on Saturday.

Any team from Riverside CSC, DC Athletic, DUSC, Park Tool or the Medics will go down with the results hard to predict.

Riverside CSC are in the relegation slot having lost 4-1 to Hawkhill on Saturday, a result which keeps Hawkhill up.

Riverside face off against Premier Division runners-up Doc’s Hibernia who have gone off the boil since they lost out on the league title to Hilltown.

Doc’s lost 2-0 to bottom club Dryburgh at the weekend.

Park Tool pulled themselves off the automatic relegation spot with a 2-1 win over FC Kettledrum to take them i nto a final-day decider.

DUSC and Park Tool face off knowing whoever wins is definitely safe from relegation while the loser will be looking at the results from the DC Athletic and Riverside games anxiously to see if they survive.

A draw will see DUSC in danger if Riverside win.

The Medics are not out of trouble either, though a point may be enough against Hawkhill to ensure they stay as a Premier Division ever-present.

While the focus is on the Premier relegation battle, St James Athletic guaranteed they will join the Premier as First Division champs following a walkover against Club 83 who struggled to pull a squad together.

One defeat in 15 though shows they are deserved titleholders.

Joining them are Cairdy Thistle and Ferry Mechanics.

Mechanics lost 4-2 to Stobswell, who finished their season in style.

This weekend sees Cairdy and St James battle for pride in a final day showdown.

Mechanics are at home to Monifieth Hurricanes.

Bank Street Athletic required one win in their final game of the season to be certain of winning the Second Division title.

However, following their defeat to FC Boukir in their penultimate match they went i nto their final game against Occidental knowing a win would give t hem t he crown.

Oxy were also playing for promotion and they beat the Bankies already this season in the league.

In a tense game, the sides were inseparable following a 1-1 draw.

This keeps Bank Street top but they are now looking at the results of FC Boukir’s two remaining games.

Boukir face Clark’s AFC tonight at Fairmuir then Sidlaw Albion in the final match on Saturday.

They know they must win both to pip the Bankies to the summit.

Occidental know they have also given themselves a shout at promotion, knowing a win on Saturday against Fife Thistle B will see them promoted at the expense of Charlie’s Accies, whose 3-0 defeat against Dundee City has put what seemed a few weeks back a certain promotion into jeopardy.

The win guaranteed Dundee City First Division football next season.

They know any slip-up from Boukir and them winning on Saturday could see them crowned champions.

They have the better head-to-head record against Bank Street, taking four points off the Bankies this season.

Saturday will see the Second Division title race go down to the wire.
