Hectic time is in store for Spoony
ST JOHNSTONE midfield man David Wotherspoon has now “switched off after another busy season.”
However, the former Hibs player will be g etting switched on again soon with next season on the horizon at club and international level.
Due to Saints’ Europa League involvement in the last few seasons, Wotherspoon hasn’t had much of a close season.
And although he is getting more of a rest this time around, he’ll be in for a hectic time of it once the new season gets started.
He is hoping to be in the Canada squad for matches away to the Virgin Islands in September and at home to Dominica t he f ollowing month, having recently won his first cap for the country.
“I was delighted to play for Canada against New Zealand and hope to be involved again,” he said.
Spoony ended last season on a scoring note, netting in Saints’ last two games, a win at Hamilton and a draw at home to Ross County.
“I was happy with those strikes and it’s always good to get on the scoresheet,” he added.
“We ended the season in good form but know we have to be more consistent.”
FORTY-SIX years after starting his playing career with Albion Rovers, former Saint John Brogan has returned to Cliftonhill as manager. Brogan, Saints’, record goalscorer, has been out of football since leaving Wishaw Juniors in February.
