Bin times cleared up

Normal service resumes this week throughout city

PROBLEMS with overflowing and uncollected bins will be resolved this week.

That’s according to Kevin Cordell, convener of neighbourhood services, after multiple complaints about bins overflowing and going uncollected for several weeks.

He promised that the issue would be resolved, saying: “It’s in hand and crews were to be out over the weekend if need be.

‘‘Hopefully that backlog will be cleared today.”

Areas affected by a build-up include Trottick, Claverhouse, Mill o’ Mains and Craigowl.

It is understood the backlog of waste has been created by the number of people carrying out garden maintenance in the fine weather over recent weeks.

A statement on Dundee City Council’s website has apologised for the delay and thanked the public for their patience.

But several city residents have taken to social media to voice their anger with claims that some bins had not been collected in a fortnight.

Councillor Philip Scott raised his concerns at the recent meeting of Broughty Ferry’s local community planning partnership.

He said: “I think the main thing is brown bins not being collected in the Ferry. I believe the good weather has got everybody out and going into their gardens and filling all the brown bins up.

‘‘It turns out some lorries broke down or something so there was a delay and the Friday collection wasn’t made until last Wednesday. There were a lot of people complaining about that.

‘‘Hopefully that won’t happen again and it will be sorted out.”

David Simpson, chairman of Broughty Ferry LCPP, said: “I think it was operational difficulties with vehicles breaking down.

‘‘It’s my belief they were running two days behind for a little bit but they are catching up now and there are extra resources going in.

“It’s unfortunate to have come at this time when a good bit of weather has everyone out.”
