Custody unit will be in the wrong place

-

IN response to the letters regarding the new female custody unit on Alexander Street.

My concern is that, with the Lily Walker Centre being in such close proximity, these women in the unit – who wish to turn their lives around – will be on a hiding to nothing.

They will invariably be associating with the same people who, most likely, led them into crime in the first place.

It’s a well-known fact that, in order for a person to successfully start afresh, they must disengage themselves from all parts of their former lives – including acquaintances.

That’s almost impossible, while living in this area.

I propose a more affluent area, perhaps the West End of the city, or Broughty Ferry, where hopefully these women will be mingling with positive role models, giving them something to aspire to and encouraging them to alter their lives.

Won’t happen.

IT is disgusting to think that I am going to live beside a female custody unit.

This will be two minutes from the house I have moved into.

Had I known this was going to happen, I wouldn’t have moved here.

There are going to be lots of children here, with a new school and new nursery.

What were the authorities thinking of when passing this?

Would they like to live beside it with their children? I don’t think so.

This should not be allowed to go ahead. Put it somewhere else.

Disgusted.
